Mid-Summer Fun

Too hot, too bright, water levels too low… Usual Summertime excuses but a trip to the Tees today resulted in several hours great fishing…  when willing fish were found!

A couple of small Trout to this Summer’s ever present Goldhead Pheasant Tail Nymph fished on the duo, with one putting up a impressive fight to defy its smaller than expected size.

With an Elk Hair Caddis fished up top gaining more and more attention from hungry, rising fish, a hefty Grayling was lost when the knot on my loop to loop tippet connection failed, a case perhaps of playing the fish a bit too hard, trying to keep it out of the faster water and wanting to keep line on the reel so the drag could do it’s stuff. It’s frustrating when this happens… is a tippet ring or knot to furled leader a better option? Research needed… 🤔

30 mins later, in a different run, this chunky 14″ Grayling couldn’t resist the passing Elk Hair Caddis, now fished exclusively as a Dry. It’s always hard to get a good photo of a fish, quickly and with minimal handling (or dropping your phone in the river) but here it is!

A thoroughly enjoyable few hours on the river with sightings of Dragonflies, Damsel Flies and, from a distance, an Otter swimming across the river and not a soul to be seen!
